BGCLAH Awards Liliana M. LA County’s Youth of The Year

Congratulations to Liliana M. from the San Pedro Boys & Girls Club for being named Los Angeles County Youth of the Year! Yusen Terminals is a proud supporter of the BGCLAH Youth of the Year program. We had the honor of cheering Liliana on during her first win at the local event a few months ago, where YTI’s President and CEO, Alan McCorkle, had the privilege of serving on the panel of judges. We’re thrilled to see Liliana continue to shine. Her passion, resilience, and leadership have already made a lasting impact on our community, and now she’ll represent Los Angeles County and BGCLAH at the California State YOY Celebration in Sacramento this April! We had the pleasure of hosting AltaSea’s Jenny Krusoe, Executive VP & Chief Operating Officer, and Robin Aube, Manager of Advancement, at Yusen Terminals for a tour of our zero-emission equipment!

Soaring Higher Together: Celebrating a Landmark Year at Yusen Terminals

What an incredible year 2024 was for Yusen Terminals! It was a period marked by significant achievements, none of which would have been possible without the unwavering support of our incredible partners and dedicated team. We recently had the pleasure of celebrating these milestones, reflecting on a year that truly allowed us to reach new heights.

A Year of Milestones and Momentum

From the outset, 2024 was about more than just progress; it was about building momentum. We hit new safety milestones and made significant strides in our clean air initiatives, proudly incorporating hydrogen and EV equipment into live operations. This commitment to sustainability is a testament to our forward-thinking approach and the collaborative spirit of our partners.

We also navigated record cargo volumes and celebrated historic vessel calls, including our first weekly 13,500 TEU vessel call. These achievements underscore our operational excellence and the seamless collaboration with our customers, vendors, and the ILWU.

Beyond the numbers, 2024 was a year filled with joy and community engagement. We welcomed numerous customer visits, hosted insightful tours, and actively gave back to our local community through various charitable initiatives and sponsorships. These moments truly brought our values of Collaboration, Caring, and Commitment to life.

The Power of Partnership

At Yusen Terminals, we know that strong partnerships are the bedrock of our success. Every milestone we achieved in 2024 had our partners at its heart. Your trust, dedication, and shared commitment to safety, service, and community have helped shape a stronger, more resilient future for YTI.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our valued customers, vendors, collaborators, the YTI team, and the ILWU. It’s your support that empowers us to set new standards and continue to soar higher.

We came together for a barbecue to celebrate an extraordinary year—and most importantly, the people who made it all possible. From achieving new safety milestones and advancing clean air initiatives by incorporating hydrogen and EV equipment in live operations, to setting cargo records and welcoming our first weekly 13,500 TEU vessel call, 2024 was a year of standout accomplishments.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate “Soaring Higher: 2024 & Beyond!” We’re excited to see what new heights we’ll reach, together.

Swinging Through Tariffs: Insights from Port of LA’s Executive Director

Yusen Terminals recently had the fantastic opportunity to join the San Pedro Chamber Leadership Roundtable, featuring the inspiring Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, Mr. Gene Seroka.

His openness in sharing insights and his passionate call for the San Pedro business community, both big and small, to unite and keep “swinging” through the challenges of the tariffs was truly energizing. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of collaboration and resilience in the face of economic headwinds.

A Strong Partnership

Mayor Bass Stands for the Port of Los Angelos

Mayor Karen Bass recently met with goods movement industry leaders, labor representatives, and local business owners to discuss the impact of tariffs on the Port of Los Angeles and the wider business community. Mayor Bass emphasized her strong support for the Port, assuring that Los Angeles remains a reliable business partner despite economic uncertainties.

Concerns Over Trade Policy’s

Attendees, including terminal operators, railroad representatives, and supply chain stakeholders, expressed significant concern over how unpredictable federal trade policies are disrupting trade, deterring private investment, and raising fears about job stability and growth.

Quotes from Key Leaders

Mayor Karen Bass highlighted that “the unpredictability of federal trade policy is felt deeply throughout our city,” noting that millions of Angelenos depend on the Port for well-paying jobs. She affirmed, “Los Angeles remains open for business.”

Council-member Tim McOsker criticized the “chaos of these ever-changing tariffs,” stating they cause “real economic harm” by slowing ship calls and impacting livelihoods. He stressed that American workers shouldn’t bear the burden of such unpredictability.

Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, thanked Mayor Bass for the meeting, emphasizing Los Angeles’s crucial role in world trade and reaffirming the Port’s commitment to its workers and partners
