YTI’s Bi-Annual Safety-Focused Trucker Meeting

Last Wednesday, we hosted our Bi-Annual Safety-Focused Trucker Meeting at The Boathouse on the Bay! At Yusen Terminals, safety is a shared responsibility, and partnering with the trucking community to discuss and improve safety measures is a perfect example of action-in-motion collaboration, the heart of our core value, “Collaboration.”

We want to give a big thank you to all the trucking companies that joined us for this event. We’re energized by the momentum we’re building and sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from our trucking company partners. By working together, we continue to strengthen safety and collaboration at the terminal, creating a safer and more efficient environment for everyone.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week Highlights

Over the course of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Yusen Terminals had the pleasure of honoring the truck drivers who keep the supply chain moving every day. At our terminal, we celebrated with treats, gifts, and heartfelt thanks to show our appreciation for their dedication and hard work. A special thank you goes to Tammy Duncan and Phillip Healey for all their support in helping make these celebrations possible.

We also want to recognize the Harbor Trucking Association for their ongoing support of drivers and for fostering strong partnerships with YTI and the wider port community. Their efforts help strengthen the relationships that keep our operations and the supply chain running smoothly.

Beyond our terminal celebrations, we were grateful to participate in other driver appreciation events. At the Quik Pick Express Driver Appreciation Event, Frances Ohlheiser attended on behalf of YTI to celebrate the hard work and commitment of their drivers during a special raffle and community gathering. We also joined the Price Transfer Driver Appreciation Event at their annual barbeque to recognize drivers for their year-round dedication. A big thank you to Erik Crichton, Bret Montgomery, Cody Herrin, Joe Dragich, Frances Ohlheiser, Alan McCorkle, and Bob Fanselow for the invitation and warm welcome.

Yusen Terminals was proud to sponsor and attend the 90th Grand Grunion Gala at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium! This special event not only celebrated the Aquarium’s 90th anniversary but also highlighted its mission to provide free and low-cost educational experiences for over 250,000 visitors each year. Thousands of schoolchildren, many of whom are experiencing the beach and ocean for the first time, benefit from these programs that inspire curiosity, learning, and a love for the ocean.

Representing YTI at the gala were Suzanne Contreras and Carley Radov, who had a memorable evening connecting with the community and exploring marine life. From petting baby leopard sharks to watching glowing jellyfish, the night was full of unforgettable moments.

Inside Yusen Terminals: America’s First EV Top Handler Fleet at the Port of LA

Step inside Yusen Terminals at the Port of Los Angeles for a first look at our brand-new EV top handler fleet, the first commercially available, American-made electric top handlers in operation.

In this video, Matt Hamilton, the Director of Sustainability, takes you on a quick tour of how we’re moving toward zero-emission terminal operations. From lifting hundreds of containers daily with nearly one megawatt of battery power to charging with heavy-duty EVESCO fast chargers, these machines are built to match the strength of diesel while producing zero emissions.

This is just one part of Yusen Terminals’ commitment to clean cargo movement and helping the Port of LA reach its 2030 zero-emission goals, creating cleaner air for our employees, neighbors, and local communities.

Port of LA Interns Visit YTI

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Port of Los Angeles interns for a behind-the-scenes tour of YTI. One of the highlights of their visit was climbing into our cranes for a firsthand look at what it’s like to operate them and see the terminal from above. It’s not every day that you get to experience this perspective, and for many of the interns, it offered a new appreciation of the technology, skill, and teamwork that keep our operations moving every single day. These moments give us the chance to show what goes into terminal operations while sparking interest and excitement about the maritime industry.

By sharing our knowledge and experiences, we’re reinforcing our values of Collaboration, Caring, and Commitment, also known as The YTI Way. Building connections with young professionals helps bridge the gap between education and real-world application, creating pathways for future growth in our industry.

Thank you to the Port of Los Angeles and Mark Arca for making this visit possible. We look forward to continuing to inspire and collaborate with the future leaders of our community.

Yusen Terminals Reinforces Commitment to Safer Ports at the Maritime Hacking Village

Recently, Yusen Terminals took part in the DEFCON 33 Maritime Hacking Village, which highlights cybersecurity risks in maritime and port operations.

Representing YTI, Mark McHargue provided technical support for maritime systems simulations, helped design hacking challenges, and connected with key industry and federal stakeholders.

Mark worked closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and DHS to explore new cybersecurity initiatives and gain a deeper understanding of emerging vulnerabilities in maritime infrastructure and IoT. Through these efforts, YTI not only strengthened its presence in the cybersecurity community but also supported strategic port security goals and fostered meaningful knowledge exchange with both government and industry leaders.

By participating in this event, Yusen Terminals continues to reinforce its commitment to advancing maritime cybersecurity and contributing to safer, more resilient port and shipping operations worldwide.
